Hey, welcome to my blog and website! 👋🏾
This is my first post and I want it to be a cool first post and for you to have a good first impression and experience.
To help clarify ideas (the tradition started, that's right, in the first post), let's listen to a little song, today I'm listening to Kendrick Lamar while writing this post, more specifically Count Me Out.
Presentations
First things first, I need to introduce myself, I think if you navigate to the about section of this website, you will see a shorter version. But let's go, my name is Rodrigo Tavares, I was born in Osasco/SP, I lived most of my life there and the other half in Barueri/SP, where I currently live.
I'm at the height of my late twenties. I graduated in Information Systems and completed a postgraduate degree in Software Engineering. I've been working in the technology field since I was 17, I started as a programmer in a software factory, programming with ColdFusion (wtf?), but also worked with some fun technologies such as PHP, JavaScript, C#, React Native, Flutter, Clojure, etc.
Until now I've had a very interesting career, for large companies in Latin America, most of the time as a frontend/mobile engineer.
I will explain more about my career experiences in the next blog posts.
I became a father at the beginning of 2023 and I am very happy with this change in my life, I am also engaged. In our free time, we watch a lot of sports, formula 1, football, basketball, NFL. I love music (rock and hiphop) and barbecue/foods in general, I love learning about these topics in my free time.
PS: I have an SG guitar, I even tattooed it.
Now you know a little about me and some fun facts, we can move on to the purpose of this blog.
FOMO
I believe that the best way for a front-end to showcase their knowledge is through a portfolio, but due to professional circumstances(working a lot), we don't always have time for that.
Since 2020, I have been rehearsing to launch something that could help me develop more technically, help develop other people, and thus be a cycle of learning and sharing.
During my paternity leave I started this project, using as a reference the project I found at Vercel, the Tailwind Nextjs Starter Blog from Timothy Lin.
My goal for using a template was to have an initial base of NextJS and Tailwind that I hadn't had the opportunity to work on yet, then I customized it to my needs, adapted the layout and setup, and here we are.
FOMO - abbreviation for "fear of missing out": a worried feeling that you may miss exciting events that other people are going to, especially caused by things you see on social media.
What I mean by FOMO is that for a long time I felt the need to have a portfolio or be a content creator about my area, but it's okay if you don't do it, you're not the best software engineer for doing it or the worst for not doing it.
I decided to create this blog to share my ideas, be the laboratory for my new learning and always try to do my best.
Next Steps
For the next steps, I will share my story, topics about career, personal life, travel, startups, side projects and open source projects. And to start my journey, in the next few weeks I'll tell you how I got my first professional certification: AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner!
Thank you if you've read this far, feel free to contact me on social media.
Bye!
